Promoting Inclusion in the Center for Population Biology
The members of the Center for Population Biology play an active role in fostering a welcoming and supportive community. Since 2016, students in the Population Biology Graduate Group have run a committee that works to help build a culture of belonging that encourages collaboration, creativity, and scientific impact. This independent committee works closely with the center and other units on campus toward these goals. These efforts align with the UC Davis Principles of Community, reflecting a shared commitment to an inclusive, respectful, and equitable environment that values every individual.
Mission Statement: This student-run committee exists to encourage broad participation and support an inclusive community in the Population Biology Graduate Group. Graduate students formed this committee to facilitate the recruitment and participation of students from across a wide range of experiences and perspectives. We also seek to raise awareness about barriers that limit the participation of many students in STEM fields and how our community can create positive change for all students. Specifically, we aim to identify and implement methods of supporting engagement from all students in the program and to create a positive culture that highlights and supports the wide range of perspectives and experiences that students bring.
