Marina LaForgia Named 2022 For Women in Science Fellowship from L'Oréal USA

UC Davis postdoctoral scholar Marina LaForgia, Ph.D. '21 was recently (Nov. 3) named a 2022 For Women in Science (FWIS) Fellowship from L'Oréal USA, making her one of only five postdoctoral scholars in the United States to receive this grant.

LaForgia's research focuses on seed dispersal of plants to help determine which species will be most vulnerable to environmental change.

"The L'Oréal For Women in Science Fellowship is allowing me to develop this class that I'm calling the Badass Babes of Botany to introduce students to all of the amazing women who have contributed to the field in the past and right now," she said in this video

LaForgia is currently a USDA NIFA postdoctoral fellow in Population Biology faculty member Jennifer Gremer’s lab at UC Davis and Lauren Hallett’s lab at the University of Oregon. In 2022, LaForgia  received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research. LaForgia earned her doctoral degree from UC Davis Ecology Graduate Group under the guidance of professors Susan Harrison and Andrew Latimer.
